About our “Free From” Project
“To me, freedom is about owning my story and letting go of the shame and secrecy that kept me trapped for years. It’s about shedding the lies and clinging only to the truth about who I am and what I am capable of.”
-Lauren Bersaglio, Founder of Libero
We talk a lot about freedom here at Libero; it’s even in our name (did you know ‘Libero’ means ‘Free’?).
Freedom is at the core of our mission and is the foundation of the story behind Libero. That being said, we know freedom means something different to everyone. Just as each of us has something different we are “Free From”, we each have a different definition of what that means to us and why it’s important.
What does freedom mean to you?
Our “Free from” photo project is about defining and celebrating freedom. We believe when we share our stories and claim freedom, we can end stigma and let others know there is hope and they aren’t alone.
Take part in our “Free from” Project
It’s easy; all you have to do is follow these 3 simple steps:
- Take a photo while holding up a “Free from___” sign.
- Post the photo to social media using #LiberoChampions with a caption that states what freedom means to you.
- Tag us (@liberomagazine) and you’re done!

Here are some of the “Free from” photos shared by the Libero Community:
“Freedom is allowing myself to be free from the pressure to be perfect–to be everything, everywhere, all the time–so I can follow my dreams.” -Elizabeth G.
“To me, freedom is about accepting my flaws and learning from them. It’s about understanding my mental illness and working with it instead of against it. It’s about feeling confident and comfortable with the choices I make and the actions I take.” -Holly C.
“Freedom is about remembering daily that I am no longer bound by any shame from having a mental illness. It’s about understanding that we all struggle in so many different ways and that no one is perfect. Freedom means speaking out about my experiences and my fight in order to shatter the illusion of perfection and break the stigma. Freedom is knowing two things: that I don’t need to be ashamed of my experiences and that I am never alone.” -Sky W.
“In my life, freedom is about breaking free from the chains that tell me I am my mental illness and it controls me. It means smashing the lies contained within labels people have placed on me and learning how to pursue life without those shackles.” -Tabitha W.
