Before you start reading... There has never been a time when our community and content was needed more. Unlike other sites, we don't publish sponsored content or share affiliate links. We also don’t run ads on our site and don’t have any paywalls in front of our content–-anyone can access all of it for free.

This means we rely on donations from our community (people like YOU!) to keep our site running. We want to be here to support you all through this pandemic and beyond, which is why we are asking you to consider donating whatever you are able.

A single (or monthly) donation of just $5 will make a HUGE difference and will help keep our nonprofit running so we can continue offering peer support for mental health through our content.

When you are recovering from an eating disorder, it can be tricky and possibly dangerous when you start to incorporate exercise back into your life. Not only can the environment in which you exercise be a trigger, the unsolicited comments about body size and shape can also test your strength and challenge your recovery.

This video explains the steps you need to take in order to safely add exercise back into your recovery and help prevent relapse.

1. Obtain clearance from your recovery/treatment team.

2. Find a person to exercise with you that will be in complete support of your recovery. Choose them wisely!

3. Set parameters — day, time, and location.

4. Avoid numbers — remember they can be everywhere.

5. Be picky about your instructor. Look for one that does not use fat talk.

6. Avoid triggering environments.

7. Remember you are working out to have fun and mending or establishing a mind body connection, which can aid in your recovery.
