Waiting…nobody likes it and yet we all do it anyways.
There are so many things in our lives that we find ourselves waiting for: waiting for an opportunity, waiting for a call, waiting for an answer, waiting to see what happens next… Life, it seems, is one big waiting game. But does it have to be?
Sure, waiting is inevitable; we can’t have everything we want exactly when we want it, but does that mean we need to give in to spending our lives simply waiting?
Often when I find myself waiting for something that holds slightly more importance than my starbucks drink, I tend to put my life on hold. I don’t work, I don’t play, I don’t move – I just sit. Sit and wait.
This is an incredibly bad habit to get into. Life is happening, right here, right now. It isn’t waiting for you. I was watching the movie A lot Like Love last night, and one of the character’s tells Ashton Kutcher: “This is your life. Right now. It doesn’t wait for you to get back on your feet.” – And he’s right, it doesn’t.

So don’t sit. don’t just wait. Life is moving, and you have to keep moving with it. The answer will come. The call will come. An opportunity will come – but in the meantime keep moving. I’m beginning to realize that life ends when you start waiting for it to happen.
So don’t wait.
I am always referring to Dr. Seuss and his poem “Oh! The Places You’ll Go”, here is what he has to say about waiting:
…headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
The Waiting Place…
…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or the waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for the wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.
That’s not for you!
Today I encourage you to stop waiting. As Switchfoot says, “I dare you to move!” Get on with life, because it’s getting on without you. Pick up the pace and keep moving because The Waiting Place is not the place you want to be.
