Please Support our Nonprofit Magazine this week for Giving Tuesday NOW!

There has never been a time when our community and content was needed more. As a nonprofit online community and magazine, we provide FREE articles, videos, and other content that is available worldwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Due to the global pandemic, we’ve had to put events, collaborations and business sponsorships on hold, leaving us to rely exclusively on online donations from our community (aka YOU!) We want to be here to support you all through this pandemic and beyond, which is why we are asking you to consider donating whatever you are able. Our goal is to raise $1,000 this week!

This month we’re talking about mental barriers and tips on breaking through some of the big ones. In this video I share my biggest mental barrier: the fear of asking for support.

This got in the way of me initially coming out about my struggles, got in the way of me asking for support throughout recovery, and to this day still can get in the way of me reaching out to people when I’m in need of a hand.

What am I usually afraid of? My assumptions, or “expectations” of what people will think: they’re going to judge me, think less of me, lose respect for me, overreact etc…

What has (and still is) helping me overcome this fear? The reality: people are more understanding than I think.

If anything, opening up and being honest helps people connect with me, helps me feel connected, and truly was a lifesaver throughout recovery.

Whenever I feel the fear settling in, I remind myself that my expectations rarely line up with reality, and I reach out for support anyways. And I never regret it.

Have you reached out for support and had a positive experience? Share in the comments below to encourage others who may share this fear!
