A single (or monthly) donation of just $5 will make a HUGE difference and will help keep our nonprofit running so we can continue offering peer support for mental health through our content.

I did something today that I’ve never done before. I stood straight in front of a mirror and told myself I couldn’t move until I named at least 10 things I love about my body. The result? I was smiling by the end of it.

It’s so easy to be caught up in the images blasted at us in movies, TV shows, magazines, websites, etc. One can’t help but compare themselves to these beautiful people they are seeing; but we often forget that they are people –  just like us.

Everyone will have things they like or dislike about their body.

The key is is to realize if and when some magazine or picture or TV show is negatively influencing the way we feel about ourselves.

It’s so hard to stop yourself from comparing your body to someone else’s. It becomes a horrible cycle that ultimately leads you down a path to resenting your body and therefore, resenting everything you are.

By consistently comparing, you’re deconstructing your relationship with yourself.

So I made a stand today.

I decided that there are things I love about my body, and others that I have learned to accept and you know what? Someone out there will appreciate the ‘flaws’ you think you have. You are the person you are and THIS is the body you have and you must be your best friend.

I jumped on my computer and promptly removed the bookmarks to all the sites I saved that caused me to resent my body. I’ve decided to do a media fast and not allow myself to look at TV shows and movies that will make me feel down about my self.

I choose to love myself.

If closing down media and all those images blasting my way is the first step to embracing who I am body, heart and soul, then I’m going to do it!

What’s stopping you?

Stand in front of a mirror and write down 10 things you love about your self. And then find 10 negative influences on your body and self-image and block them out of your life.

You’ll feel instantly happier and the relationship you have with yourself will grow stronger as you appreciate yourself more and those around you will see a change.

Happiness is contagious.
