Recovering from anxiety is not easy; recovering from any mental illness isn’t easy – but I can say with absolute confidence that it is possible. The idea of facing your struggles and underlying issues can be incredibly daunting and can make you want to run away from the world and make everything go away. But fighting for your recovery is so worth it.
There are so many reasons to recover from anxiety, but I have chosen to tell you about two main reasons that have been most relevant for me.
As someone who struggled to leave the house during the worst bouts of my anxiety, the fact that I’m writing this post from a different country is quite amazing. I would never have thought that I would have been okay to travel the world on my own, but I’m doing it, and I love it! It may seem difficult to leave your safe place now, but when you do, you’ll realize everything you’ve been missing.
Once you see that the world isn’t such a scary place, after all, the idea of travelling is much more attractive.
Even though your ‘safe place’ may seem appealing to you right now, there isn’t anything exciting happening there. It’s all well and good feeling safe and comfortable, but I like to think if you are constantly feeling comfortable then you’re not entirely living.
Life is full of exciting, scary, and conflicting emotions, and we shouldn’t be afraid of them! So, I ventured out into the world and have truly discovered more about myself than I ever would have if I had stayed within the confines of my safe place. I understand that going straight from the comfort of your home to a completely different country can be daunting, so why not start with simple exploration? Go to your local gardens and take in the fresh air or visit a friend. The key is starting small.
In learning to explore yourself and your surroundings, you find yourself again.
You find out who you are minus all the worry and panic. Because you’re no longer focusing all of your energy on your anxiety, there is more space in your mind for more positive thoughts and feelings.
When I started battling my anxiety, my sense of humor returned and I was able to socialize without worrying about having a panic attack in public. I was able to be spontaneous instead of having to plan events days or even weeks in advance. It’s those little things that you’re missing out on that you really notice when you start to recover and overcome your fears.
You may be wondering why I’ve written a post on reasons to recover from anxiety, after all, no one wants their anxiety and they find no comfort like one would an eating disorder.
The main reason for this post is to show all anxiety sufferers out there that there is hope.
You are able to overcome this panic and fear!
Know there is so much support out there; you just need to find it. I’ve fought so hard to get to where I am today. Recovering from anxiety is not easy, but it has been the most worthwhile thing I’ve ever done for myself and I know you can do it too!
